Retro’s journey to community outreach started in 2007, as a junior in high school. She participated in the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated “Jabberwock.” During this college scholarship and personal development program, she was introduced to the importance of community service. The impactful organization and Jabberwock contestants made an unforgettable donation of teddy bears to the Rocky Mount Police Department to soothe children during traumatic emergencies. In the result of the contest, Retro was placed recipient for Runner-Up, a member of the Circle of Distinction (raising $5,000 or more), received the Outstanding Attendance Award, and the Marguerite C. Armstrong Award (high school junior with the highest GPA). Nearly a decade later, in 2017. Retro took the initiative to start a personal fundraiser to assemble hygiene care kits for a community service project while working with the Durham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. As a result, her outreach was funded by the community...for the community. Hygiene care kits were donated to Urban Ministries of Durham, and teddy bears were donated to the City of Durham Police Department. Several successful projects have been implemented since then. The outreach was established through passion and purpose. Retro's unwavering passion for helping people has led her to a purpose of public service. It’s her mission to make a positive impact, assist those in need, and bring unity to our community. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Retro is the Founder and CEO of Retro Community Outreach.
